Dorothea Lange Great Depression Photo Analysis
The economic crisis known as The Great Depression had a dramatic impact on American society as the standard of living for most Americans plummeted. Photographs from the era often reveal this poverty. Of special relevance are the images taken by photographers who worked for the Farm Security Administration (FSA). The federal government hired these photographers to travel throughout the country in order to document the poverty that existed in rural areas. Today historians see these images as a useful tool to better understand the social conditions of America during the Great Depression. One of the photographers that the FSA hired was Dorothea Lange and her photographs have become famous for depicting the Great Depression.
