Digital Pathways Art is a very independent course, where students are expected to stay on task, and complete class projects. If you can’t figure out how to complete an assignment, and are in need of assistance please ask for help.

Course Description
In the Art section of Digital Pathways, students will work to gain basic knowledge of the visual arts and design utilizing technology. Students will learn to improve their use of visuals and graphics to enhance ideas. The course will focus on the 21st Century Skills of increasing communication, creativity, and critical thinking by solving visual problems using digital media. Students will create projects with digital imaging, design and create digital posters, a multimedia/video project and a website to demonstrate their understanding of curriculum concepts.

We do have a PowerSchool Learning site we will be using in the course for quizzes, tests, and for digital submission of class projects for grading. The site can be found here:

Textbook Assignments
Online digital textbook: ArtTalk by Rosiland Ragans
Chapters 1, 2 and 14 will be covered in this book. The text (reading) is available online via our class website or hardcopy book if you choose.
Web Assignments
Other various reading assignments on topics dealing with art and technology will be given throughout the semester with student reflections and responses. Students will have an opportunity to complete these in class. Sometimes students might need to complete these for homework if they are behind on their class work.
Homework
Homework will not be given, however students might need to finish projects at home on their Chromebook to meet project DUE DATES.
Assessment
Evaluating classroom behavior, computer assignments, reading and writing assignments, quizzes, participation and final exam will determine grades.

Computer Art Projects
All computer art projects will be graded with the following three criteria. Additional criteria will be used to grade projects as well. These criteria will be stressed when talking about the projects and listed on class website.
1. Focus on directions and project objectives
2. Successful use of the visual art elements and principles
3. Understanding and ability to use the computer and software

1. Adobe Photoshop Elements, Pixlr and PicMonkey (photo editing programs)
2. Piktochart and Canva (free Infographic, poster, presentation software)
3. WeVideo.com (multimedia/video editing program)
4. Weebly.com (free online website builder)

Students are responsible for knowing and following the LTHS technology rules outlined in the Porter Planner.

Student Expectations
- Attend class regularly with proper materials and attire. Good attendance is required to do well.
- Students will need a to bring a Pen, or Pencil and Earbuds (for listening to videos for class projects) everyday to class
- Follow classroom Rules and Procedures. (see list below)
- When you need help please ask myself, or another student for help. Don't get a poor grade because you won't self advocate (speak up for yourself for yourself.)
- Please don’t expect me to do your work for you. I will be than happy to help after you try first and have are having difficulty. Please use the directions & videos on our class website, and be able to tell what step you are stuck on.
- Put your name, class period, and A or B day on everything you turn in.
- If you are absent it is your responsibility to find out what we covered and when you can make it up. Always check the class website for information on projects we worked on from the day(s) you were absent.
- Use your Porter Planner and the class calendar on our website to keep track of when projects are due.
- It is your responsibility to LISTEN and pay attention when I give directions. I will NOT keep repeating them. Use the class website to review project directions and steps, rubrics for grading, and due dates for projects.
- Apply yourself fully in order to maximize learning. Give your best effort.

Classroom Rules
- Respect the teacher, substitute teachers, other students, and the equipment you are using in class. Remember that RESPECT is EARNED.
- Cursing, or inappropriate language is NOT ALLOWED.
- Chromebooks will NOT be used in class, but COULD be used to complete work that is not finished in class at HOME. if needed. We will ONLY be using the desktop computers during our class.
- Please raise your hand if you have a question.
- Phones are NOT ALLOWED to be used or visible in school UNLESS these are given by the Teacher for class work. Any student with a phone out during class time will receive a referral and the device will be given to the Dean. NO WARNING GIVEN, NO EXCEPTIONS!
- NO on-line music is allowed during class, or video sites (YouTube) are allowed UNLESS these are given by the teacher for class work.
- NO browsing the web, playing video games on any electronic device during class time. Any student doing this during class time will receive a referral to the Dean. NO ADDITIONAL WARNINGS, NO EXCEPTIONS!
- There is absolutely no food, candy, gum or drinks allowed in the lab. Your 1st offense will result in a warning; a second will be a REFERRAL! If you have a medical condition that requires water or food (i.e. diabetic) please come and let me know the first day of class.
Classroom Procedures
- Each assignment will have a due date listed on the Calendar section of our class site. Please look at these and listen when we talk about due dates for projects. Write down these due dates in your Porter Planner to stay organized, and remember when these projects are due for grading! No partial or late points are given. Failure to get the assignment turned in will result in an F for that project. Exceptions for extended absence approved by the school will be made as needed.
- Projects that need to be printed will be noted in the directions, and must be placed in correct class basket in order to receive credit.
- PowerSchool Learning will be used for some Digital Pathways Art assignments, and assessments. Assignments submitted thru PowerSchool Learning will be due on a specific day and time noted on calendar of class site.
- Students must stay in assigned seats unless you are retrieving a print out and putting this into the class basket. Please ask for permission if you want to help another student that is not next to you.
